Double Celebration

This morning Gullane Athletic AFC played host to Whitburn FCA in the South East Region cup. A bright sunny day with the visitors playing some excellent football and deservedly striding into a 4-1 lead at HT. With a couple of changes and Robbie finding his shooting boots Gullane fought back to firstly draw level and then with JJ scoring the winner the team somehow won a game that looked all over at HT. A real credit to all the players. (Coaches note - meet time for games needs to be an hour earlier to give players a chance to wake up!). Thats a couple of wins on the bounce so well done to all.   Also congratulations to squad players Izzy, Ella and Shona for their involvement with Hearts Ladies…

Peebles Away Trip

Gullane Athletic U13's had an away trip today to play the return fixture against Peebles.  This was the teams 4th league fixture of the season and the 3rd away from "home". After a couple of heavy defeats it was heartening to see the team continue to put into a game situation what they have been practicing. A strong away support gave plenty of encouragement and although the result was a narrow 2-1 defeat all the players should be happy with how they played. Next match is on Thursday 1st Sept versus Longniddry Villa colts kick off 6.30 at Aberlady.

The circle of life!

21 years after a team last representing Gullane Athletic AFC played a competitive match the current crop of U13 players managed to do what their predecessors failed to do and that was to beat a team from Peebles. Back then the Gullane team had to beat Peebles to gain promotion in the Lothian Amatuer league but failed to do so with a 4 -0 defeat.  Today, 21 years later that wrong was righted when after a really enjoyable game of football Gullane run out winners 4-3.  Both teams have to be commended for their attitude and importantly skill levels. Next fixture is away to Redhall FC on Sunday 21st August.

Footballing Feast Follow Up

I am sure if anyone took the opportunity to go along to Memorial Park on a bright sunny Saturday morning they would have been impressed by all the age groups playing. Grassroots football flourishes in Gullane which is all down to the coaches involved and the  parental volunteers so well done to all.  If you are interested in your child playing or indeed getting involved yourself please just get in touch.  The club is very much community oriented and no matter your viewpoint on the proposed developments coming to Gullane, the football club, hockey…
