2003 Match Report – Sat 28th March: Derby test

The 2003's final match before the Easter break was an away trip to North Berwick. The conditions were tricky with a strong crosswind from the start that never let up, making any ball off the ground unpredictable. Things got harder in the first 10 minutes with NB taking an early 2 goal lead and establishing a gap that we were ultimately not to overcome. However, we took a full squad of 10 and had a good go, bringing the score back to 3-1 and then 3-2 before slipping back to 4-2 at half time. There were some good moments of skill from our team, and we carved out a few good chances that we just failed to convert. But some strong individual defensive performances were unable to stop the NB team and, together with the effect of a…

2003 Match Report – Sat 21st March: The Magnificent 7

The Gullane Athletic 2003's were on their travels again this week for the short trip to Port Seton. The Gullane geese were down to the bare bones with players not available but the magnificent 7 left every drop of effort on the pitch.  The first half was a tight affair with Jasmine and Archie shutting up shop at the back and playing some nice football out of defence. Port Seton took the lead after Calumn brilliantly clawed away a long range effort only for the Seton player to put in the rebound. Gullane then struck back  with Myles coolly slotting home after a fine move. Gullane started the 2nd half sluggishly and Port Seton quickly took the lead and then extended it with another goal to make it 3-1. Gullane…

2003 Match Report – Sat 14th March

Gullane 2003s hit the road for their first away game of the campaign to Musselburgh and were involved in a 7 goal thriller! Myles got Gullane off to a storming start with a crisp finish from the edge of the box. Gullane proceeded to turn the screw with great interplay between Stuart, Myles and Dylan setting up a host of chances with the Musselburgh keeper and the woodwork keeping Gullane at bay. Gullane then got hit with a sucker punch losing three quick goals, but then dug in to score two more goals with Myles getting his brace and Dylan levelling with a confident finish. The team looked solid with Calumn commanding his area, Stanley and Wil impressing at the back and Daniel anchoring the midfield. Archie moved up the field…

2004 – Match Report Sat 14th March: Game of 2 halves

The 2004's 1st Home Match of 2015 was the proverbial game of 2 Halves.  With their shiny new strips the 04's took the game to today's opponents from Longniddry. A flurry of goals from the home team and a couple from the visitors saw the teams share 8 goals in the 1st 25 mins. Arran and JJ this week played in defence, Izzy and Jamie played wide with Archie in the middle and Harvey up front. This formation saw a lot of play on the right but as the ball was switched it meant Jamie was played in on a couple of occasions to good effect with him firing off a couple of excellent shots with his left foot. Later Robbie saw his wonder strike cancelled out by the referee…

2006 Match Report – Sat 7th March

Well done to the 2006’s for a brilliant start to the season, and a great start to their 7-a-side ‘careers’, during their game with Pencaitland yesterday. Over the three 15 minute games, we saw some great defensive work, really good use of space on the much bigger 7-a-side pitches, some great saves from the goalkeeper and some really well worked goals. A special thanks also to Fraser, Josh and Lilley for their contributions at short notice. See the 2006’s at training on Monday evening. Duncan, John, Mark & Grant

2003 Match Report – Sat 7th March

The 2003 team got their 2015 season up and running with a home match against Pencaitland in testing windy conditions. We had a full squad of 10 and everyone made a good contribution, with some deliberately tested in unfamiliar positions. Playing into the wind in the first half, we held our own with Calumn making some good stops, Stuart making his reliably strong contribution and Myles finding his range, adjusting to the conditions, and narrowly missing a spectacular shot that bounced off the bar. Daniel and Archie held the defence, whilst Dylan worked the left wing and Shay looked for chances up front. Nearing half time, Itske came on, providing fresh legs and Wil took over up front, seeing us through to the break on even terms. In the second 25, Stanley had a…

2004 Match report – Sat 7th March

Goals Galore Gets Season Going. The 2015 season kicked off in style with a goal fest at Dunbar. The new format of 25 mins x 2 halves ( not sure you get any other type of halves!!) and changes to the rules for this year made it an interesting 1st fixture for both sets of players. Both teams played really well and there could easily have been more goals if it wasn't for some fantastic goalkeeping from Ali and the opposition keeper. Star striker of the day was Cole with 4 goals with Robbie pitching in with a "Worldy" plus goals from Jamie, Harvey, Shona. The removal of the retreating line proved a challenge in the early stages but it was great to see them adapt to the rule change. …
