Strong finish – 2003 match report: Sat 29th Nov

The final match of the Gullane Athletic 2003 team's 2014 saw them put together many of the elements we have been practising in training to secure a fine 11-7 result away to Musselburgh Youngstars. Establishing a quick 3 goal cushion in the first quarter, Gullane got their heads in front and never looked back, despite perhaps easing off the gas a little in the middle part of the match.  The high scoreline featured goals from all quarters - 5 from Myles in a memorably energetic performance, 3 from Stuart and 1 each from Dylan, Shay and Wil. Of these, two stick in the kind, being exactly what the coaches have looked for - great team goals: passed out wide from the keeper, moving the ball through the team for a…

What a finale!! 2004 match report – Sat 29th Nov

The 2004's finished off the 2014 season with an away fixture on the 3G pitch at Dunbar Colts against a very good side.   Three down after the 1st 10 mins it looked like the players were looking forward to Santa or indeed perhaps the school xmas play!  Without the efforts of Ali in goal the score could have been a lot worse and it was already looking like the final match would be a bad day for the 04's which would have been a tragedy as all the players have really developed their skills and game awareness this year.  But not to worry, a quick reshuffle at the break and the players got their match boots on and started to play better with more accurate passes using the width of…

Gullane 2003’s in 5 all thriller – Match report Sat 22nd Nov

Gullane 2003s were on their travels again on Saturday and were involved a 5 all thriller on a balmy morning in Pencaitland. On a sticky surface, Gullane played down the hill in the first half and after some near misses took the lead with Myles forcing the ball home under pressure from two defenders. Gullane quickly extended their advantage, with Shay slotting home after good work by Dylan and then another good finish from Myles put the Gullane geese 3 nil up at half time. Gullane played some champagne football in the first half on a difficult pitch but knew to expect a fight back from a strong and stung Pencaitland. In a game of two halves, Pencaitland did come back strongly but Gullane were resolute with Daniel putting in…

That’s Entertainment – 2004 Match Report Sat 22nd Nov

The sizeable home support were provided with a highly entertaining game as the final home match of the season saw the 2004's host Pencaitland.  On a pitch that must be the best in the county and with beautiful bright morning conditions the biggest challenge proved to be the early start. A slow start for the home team meant the first 15 mins saw them having to defend more than attack but with Arran, Finn and Shona protecting Ali in goals supported by Angus in midfield the Pencaitland attack was rebuffed until a loose ball out of defence was pounced upon and ended up in the Gullane net.   The second 15 proved that the team had woken up with better play, with Archie and Robbie playing passes out of defence one…
