Gullane 2003’s in 5 all thriller – Match report Sat 22nd Nov

Gullane 2003s were on their travels again on Saturday and were involved a 5 all thriller on a balmy morning in Pencaitland. On a sticky surface, Gullane played down the hill in the first half and after some near misses took the lead with Myles forcing the ball home under pressure from two defenders. Gullane quickly extended their advantage, with Shay slotting home after good work by Dylan and then another good finish from Myles put the Gullane geese 3 nil up at half time. Gullane played some champagne football in the first half on a difficult pitch but knew to expect a fight back from a strong and stung Pencaitland. In a game of two halves, Pencaitland did come back strongly but Gullane were resolute with Daniel putting in…

That’s Entertainment – 2004 Match Report Sat 22nd Nov

The sizeable home support were provided with a highly entertaining game as the final home match of the season saw the 2004's host Pencaitland.  On a pitch that must be the best in the county and with beautiful bright morning conditions the biggest challenge proved to be the early start. A slow start for the home team meant the first 15 mins saw them having to defend more than attack but with Arran, Finn and Shona protecting Ali in goals supported by Angus in midfield the Pencaitland attack was rebuffed until a loose ball out of defence was pounced upon and ended up in the Gullane net.   The second 15 proved that the team had woken up with better play, with Archie and Robbie playing passes out of defence one…

Tale of Two Halves – 2004 Match Report Sat 15th Nov

The 2004's visited Wallyford to play Musselburgh Youngstars (MYS)on Saturday morning. After heavy rain on the Friday there was some doubt on how the Wallyford pitch would stand up - but with drier overnight conditions  the game went ahead. Given the "Easter Road" like slope at Wallyford the match was played as 2 x 22mins halves as opposed to 3 x 15mins to ensure no team had an advantage. The hosts started with the slope and soon had the majority of the ball although when presented with the ball the Gullane team continued to try to play passing football, particularly with Angus picking up the ball deep and playing passes out of defence, something the coaches are keen to encourage. Further up the field, the passing play on a number…

Things looking up at home – 2003 Match Report 15th Nov

The team chose a bright, clear Nov morning to overturn our recent home form and record a strong 7-3 win over Musselburgh. Starting where we left off last weekend, the team showed energy and determination to establish a first-half lead and never looked back. Relentless chasing and harrying by Daniel and Stuart stopped the opposition from settling down and some good combinations up front between Myles, Stuart, and Dylan were rewarded with 2, 3 and 2 goals apiece. Although Musselburgh broke through a few times, important saves by Calumn kept our lead intact and Archie and Jasmine were strong at the back, both putting in strong tackles and working well together to give extra support up front when needed. Istke's strong running up the wings was nearly rewarded with a goal; whilst Wil filled in solidly…

The key to success : Saturday 8th Nov 2004’s Match Report.

Despite the late arrival of the Haddington key holder, once the teams got onto the pitch and the match got underway it proved a worthwhile wait for both sets of players and supporters. Credit to all the players for a great game of football. From a Gullane perspective the teamwork again was very much in evidence which continues to please the coaches. Nevertheless, despite some great individual skill from Robbie, and direct running from Archie, the first goal seemed like it would never come until one of those mazy runs from Archie ended up with Jamie steering the ball into the net. It has to be said if it wasn't for the home side's keeper, Gullane could have had 4 or 5 before the 1st one arrived.  As is the…

Top teamwork – 2003 Match Report Sat 8th Nov

Gullane 2003's impressive away form continued with an 8-2 away win on the 3G at Haddington. A pre match virus had swept through the camp leaving the team with only 8 players but to a man (and woman) they were excellent, playing as a real team. We started the game a little sluggish and went behind early to a fine Haddington goal.  That stung the team into action with Dylan drawing the team level before a slide rule pass put Shay clear down the right with a crisp finish into the bottom right corner to put Gullane 2-1 up. From there Gullane really kicked on with Jasmine and Archie marshalling the defence, with Archie having a great run and shot brilliantly turned around the post. Daniel once again excelled as…

Match report Sat 1st Nov: 2004s continue to impress

The 2004s welcomed Dunbar Utd Colts to Gullane's Memorial Park after a break of 4 weeks. Coach Mackie was looking to see a continuation of the excellent display the previous weekend at Musselburgh. The team welcomed back Jack C from a long lay off through injury. Dunbar always provide a stiff challenge and today was no different with Gullane starting off on the back foot but with superb defending by Arran and JJ, supported by Shona, Dunbar were kept at bay until late in the 1st period with ever improving Ali making some excellent stops and controlling his box well. The loss of a goal spurred Gullane forward and after a period of pressure Shona wheeled round in the box and smashed an unstoppable shot passed the Dunbar keeper. A couple of minutes later it was Robbie's turn to have…

Missed chances: 2003 Match report – Sat 1st Nov

Despite a game full of good individual performances the 2003 team continued their recent record of doing much better on their travels, with a home defeat this morning to a Musselburgh YS team who took their chances. Early on, MYS scored twice to establish a lead and then endured a strong Gullane fightback without scoring again until near the end. Gullane created a large number of chances, with only a top notch performance from the MYS keeper keeping them ahead. The fightback featured strong defensive performances from Calumn, Jasmine, Archie and Dylan whilst Miles, Stuart and Shay tried their luck at the other end. Shay pulled one back for us after a nice pass through from Stuart, and then nearly evened things up with a beautifully lofted high shot which came back off the bar.…
