That’s Entertainment – 2004 Match Report Sat 22nd Nov

The sizeable home support were provided with a highly entertaining game as the final home match of the season saw the 2004’s host Pencaitland.  On a pitch that must be the best in the county and with beautiful bright morning conditions the biggest challenge proved to be the early start. A slow start for the home team meant the first 15 mins saw them having to defend more than attack but with Arran, Finn and Shona protecting Ali in goals supported by Angus in midfield the Pencaitland attack was rebuffed until a loose ball out of defence was pounced upon and ended up in the Gullane net.   The second 15 proved that the team had woken up with better play, with Archie and Robbie playing passes out of defence one of which released Arran to place a long range shot in the bottom corner similar to the previous week ( hope the £5 a goal offer still stood). The team went ahead when a speculative clearance from Archie proved too awkward for the away team’s goalie and ended up in the net. The Pencaitland side levelled before the break. In the 3rd session Gullane started to pass the ball more and were soon opening up chances and Ella’s strong running on the left, Jamie’s crosses and  Cole’s lovely touches through the middle it was only a matter of time before a brilliant passing move saw Gullane score to pull the game level. Despite losing a late goal the overriding feeling is that with Pencaitland being one of the stronger teams in the East Lothian area the 2004’s have certainly improved since the season started in March and they more than held their own yesterday and were unlucky not to continue their winning run.
